Divvy 2 Girls Write Up

The following is written by Michael Lee:

The junior season is well under way at West Lakes and on behalf of the divvy 2 girls, I’ll be giving a rundown on how the youngsters are traveling this season. The team consists of Jasmine, Abbey, Adelle, Maddy and Samantha. Big welcome to Sammy who has come across from Next Generation in town to join the girls. Fortunately her transfer fee wasn’t that of an English premier league soccer player. The team is currently sitting third on the ladder and has had wins against Grange and Port Adelaide, with losses to Seaside, Henley South and Mellor Park. Our most recent match was against Mellor Park on 15th June. The girls went down 2-4 but were more than competitive.

First doubles, Abbey and Jazzy lost 5-6. Our girls team up well with Abbey taking up the leadership role on court with loud, clear communication, something us senior players should do more often also. A couple of loose unforced errors at 5-5 was just enough for the opposition to grab a close win.

Adelle and Sammy lost in a tight one 4-6. The opposition were very tall and much older than our two. We were off to a flyer getting out to a 4-1 lead playing steady tennis with minimal unforced errors. In a blink, Mellor Park girls game lifted and starting getting more balls back over the net. In the end there wasn’t much in it and I know Adelle and Sammy can beat them next time round.

Singles we’re up with Jazzy playing number 1 against another older taller opponent who was rock solid on both backhand and forehand sides. She hit the ball deep and high which Jazzy found difficult to hit back, Jazzy went down 2-6 but no doubt she thinks she can beat her next time they meet! Adelle played at 3 and was against a 17 year old opponent. Although Adelle lost 3-6, there was nothing in it and the score did not really give justice to a very even contest. Both hit the ball really well from the baseline but a few small errors crept in when things were tight and Mellor Park got the win. Can’t wait for the rematch Adelle.

New member Sam had a 6-5 win and was pumped with her victory. This match went for quite some time with both rallying well from baseline to baseline. Sam hit a couple of good shots at 5-5 when it counted and game, set, match to us, well done Sammy! “EPIC STORAGE” game of the day was with Abbey playing at number 2. Abbey was up against it when she found herself quickly behind 2-5. Well she hung in there and dug deep never giving in slowly getting back into the match playing real steady tennis and continued to rally to get over the line with a great 6-5 victory. Well done Abbey, your never give up attitude was fantastic indeed.

Maddy is back in the team on Saturday with Jazzys week off, Maddy will be keen to get on the court again and get some more wins for West Lakes on the board.
