Great Britain’s James Ward will take on Australia’s Matt Barton in the final of the Charles Sturt Adelaide International after both were victorious in today’s semi finals.
Aussie Barton overcame Alexander Lobkov in the first of the semi finals on centre court, the Australian broke the Russian five times in the match to continue his great form over the last two weeks. It will be Barton’s first ever ATP Challenger final and follows his first Professional tournament win in the Alice Springs Open last year at Futures level. Barton will also rise up the rankings with the New South Welshman capable of moving into the top 250 if he wins tomorrow.
In the second semi final, Great Britain’s James Ward – who also celebrated his 26th birthday today – prevented an All-Australian final after defeating Nick Kyrgios in three tough sets. In what was a scintillating match Ward finished stronger taking the third and final set 6-1 to end the week of Kyrgios who should be pleased with a semi final result from his first Challenger level tournament. It will be Ward’s fourth Challenger final after winning two events in 2009 and 2011. Ward and Barton have played once previosuly in Chinese Taipei last year where Ward was successful in a tight three setter.
