Today saw the completion of the second round at the Charles Sturt Adelaide International with world number one junior Nick Kyrgios providing the highlight of the day progressing to his first ever ATP Challenger quarter final. Kyrgios, the winner of the 2013 Australian Open Junior Boys title defeated Suk-Young Jeong in straight sets. Kyrgios will play fellow Australian Greg Jones in the quarter finals after he upset third seed Peter Polansky in three tough sets.
On the local front, South Australian Colin Ebelthite was downed by Russian Alexander Lobkov in three sets, after winning the first set in a tiebreak Ebelthite looked likely to move through to the quarters however Lobkov rallied and finished strongly winning the decider 6-2. In other results, number Japanese first seed Yuichi Sugita defeated Australian Matt Reid in straight sets while British player James Ward ended the run of qualifier Sean Berman in straight sets.
In the doubles, the final two quarter finals took place with Australian’s James Duckworth and Greg Jones defeating the Japanese duo of Hiroki Moriya and Yuichi Sugita. Later in the day Aussie youngsters Brad Mousley and Kyrgios snuck past Andrew Whittington and Alex Bolt in two tight sets.
