Today saw the conclusion of the first round at the Charles Sturt Adelaide International with three players moving through to the second round.
In the battle of the big servers Victorian Sam Groth progressed to the second round after Chris Guccione was forced to retire through injury. Before the injury the fifth seeded Groth had taken the first set in a tiebreaker and was leading 2-1 when the match ended disappointing the large contingent of local school kids watching the match.
Japanese player and number 1 seed Yuichi Sugita also progress to the second round, comfortably defeating Frenchman Jonathan Eysseric in straight sets. In the final match of round one, Australian Ben Mitchell was defeated by South Korean up and comer Suk-Yeong Jeong in straight sets.
The second round of matches also begun today with Matthew Barton continuing his good form defeating Riverlander Luke Saville in straight sets. Barton was super impressive in the win and will now take on Frenchman Stephane Robert who today accounted for Aussie John- Patrick Smith in straight sets.
In doubles action Japanese pair of Yuichi Sugita and Hiroki Moriya defeated Aussies Brydan Klein and Dane Propoggia while Sam Groth and Matt Reid proved too good for the French pair of Stephane Robert and Jonathon Eysseric
